Environmental Policy

We also work closely with artisans and manufacturers around the world to develop innovative products created from uncommon materials and crafted by hand whenever possible. Our product development initiative has resulted in dozens of distinctive products exclusive to Plow & Hearth, from Turkish-inspired trellises to unique braided rugs to enchanting quilt designs.
Our Position in the Industry
Plow & Hearth has earned a reputation for quality products and exceptional customer service. Our internal Quality Improvement Process (QIP) received national recognition within the catalog industry and in 1995, we were recipients of the prestigious United States Senate Productivity and Quality Award (USSPQA) in Virginia. Based on the core values of the prestigious Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award, the Virginia program recognizes an organization-wide perspective that keeps pace with best practices and innovative approaches to leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, human resource focus, process management and results. Three years later, Plow & Heath received the VUSSQPA Award for Continuing Excellence for our efforts to bring quality to every aspect of our business.

Our environmentally conscious approach to business, which includes our model recycling and environmental programs, has earned substantial national recognition. Our PLANTING TWO FOR ONESM program, in which we plant two trees for every one used in the production of our catalogs, has become a standard for the catalog industry. Since its inception in 1991, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Forestry, we've planted over 2600 acres of trees in the Culpeper Soil and Conservation District in central Virginia. In 2005, 325,000 trees were planted, bringing the total number of trees planted since the program began to more than one million. We are deeply committed to this effort, and we encourage other catalog companies to emulate this valuable program.
Our Community
Plow & Hearth's commitment to community involvement is reflected in the many organizations and projects supported by the company. In 1995, Plow & Hearth's Business/Education Alliance was awarded Outstanding New Business and Educational Partnership Program by the governor of Virginia. The program was cited as a model for partnership programs in rural Virginia.

Every year, Plow & Hearth participates in business case development and hosts visits by first-year students of the University of Virginia's Darden Graduate Business School. Students also have the opportunity to learn about business first hand as interns and associates in various departments throughout our Madison headquarters.

Plow & Hearth supports the Madison Council for the Arts by contributing time, talent and funding to Music on the Lawn, a series of six free outdoor concerts providing entertainment and enjoyment to the citizens of Madison and surrounding communities during the summer months.

Other community programs include Breakfast/Lunch Buddies, in which Plow & Hearth employees volunteer their time each week to mentor local primary school children; the Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup campaign; Virginia Blood Services, to which employees donate blood four to five times each year; Breast Cancer Awareness fundraisers; and the United Way, both company-wide payroll donations and departmental fundraisers.

In 2003, Plow & Hearth received the Madison Chamber Award, in recognition of our contribution to economic growth and stability and our commitment to improving the quality of life in Madison and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Our History
In 2005, Plow & Hearth celebrated its 25th anniversary. We have grown from a small country store into a multi-channel retailer, a leader in the catalog industry and the premiere source of products for the home, hearth, yard and garden. Today, we still believe in the importance of our customers and the value of the products we offer.
